Question: Good beginner fishing rod?

( Back )

Answer #1:

I would buy a combo (rod & reel) from bass pro sohps, cabellas or another big sporting goods dealer in your area. You can pick up a good setup for less than $60.

Answer #2:

bass pro has some great rod and reels for around 50 bucks

Answer #3:

A Zebco 33 Spincasting combo, like this one -- Click Here These combo's will handle any Channel Catfish or Bass you hook into. I have two of the 33 reels and I have caught 5lb Carp on mine. If mine handled that then it will handle any Bass or Catfish.

Answer #4:

Ugly Stik just smells and spells beginner.

Answer #5:

I would highly recommend an Ugly Stik combo from Wal-mart. They will cost you around $30 bucks and are strong and dependable. I would take whatever line is already on it and throw it away. Keeping that line on will just frustrate you, so buy some 15lb Red Cajun mono and get to it.

Answer #6:

This is my recommended combo: Click Here

I would personally stay away from spincast stuff....(cannot cast as far, tough to clear backlashes, difficult to clean and maintain, not as sturdy, and the drag is typically far from smooth)

Answer #7:

Check both Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's bargain cave/clearance section for rods. Buy the least expensive one you can (or what you can afford) and upgrade from there. It's called youth, middle-age and old - and one who knows exactly what you're talking about. Good luck and have fun with your new fishing rod.
