The way you worded your tag line is misleading. You didn't marry an ogre who won't let you do anything without his say-so.

What you have failed to grasp is that, in a marriage, there are a few areas that MUST be agreed on before a concrete decision is made, like where you'll live, how many kids you'll have, and where you'll vacation. Another huge issue that should be discussed is anything that drastically changes your financial picture (ie, quitting/changing jobs).

In all sincerity, and from the bottom of my heart, I ask you this question:

WHY DIDN'T YOU DISCUSS THIS FIRST !?!?!?!!!?!?!?

He has every right to be upset because nothing good has come from this.

A factory job with a 401k ain't the worst thing in the world. You had a life, and your husband was fine with things as they were, but you took it upon yourself to make a HUGE life decision without going over it first. That was a very big mistake on your part.

Granted, he was a jerk, too ... but that's his way of saying to you, "WTF!!!!!!!"

You have some major crow to eat. I suggest bbq'ing it, after marinating it overnight.
