Answer #1:

He needs to enter some tournaments. You have to realize professional bass fishers are ranked in the world. He would have to win a few tournaments and get his name out there. Practice DVD's aren't going to do it. Try ESPN.com they post tournament schedules. Good luck.

Answer #2:

If he wants to get noticed then he will have to do just that. Get noticed. You get noticed by winning tournaments. If he is as good as he tells you he is then he needs to start small by entering local tournaments. Just like anything else, when he starts winning he can move up to bigger tournaments then bigger ones then bigger ones. If he's really that good then he'll keep winning tournaments and he'll keep moving up in the fishing world. Soon he'll make it to tournaments big enough that he'll be noticed by people that matter. He just has to start winning tournament after tournament.

Answer #3:

He can get noticed by two methods. He can start winning big time bass tournaments or become one of the most successful guides in Florida. A guy with his kind of luck may just hit it big. He already has one of the best girl friends in the U.S. If he gets a show he should name it the "Lucky Dog" show.

Answer #4:

Both answers abover are right. You can't just come "off of the street" and get noticed with a video or 2. He's going to have to get started in local tournaments and do well. He'll probably find out it's much harder than it seems to be noticed by anybody. But if he enters plenty of tournaments and places he has a shot at getting a sponsor here and there which will lead to bigger and better things in the future. Like all of the pros, he has to learn each and every thing to be successful. Consider starting out with basics and get him a subscription or 2 to fishing magazines. Magazines like In-Fisherman for example have loads and loads of valuable information. They have articles from pro fisherman all around the world giving tips and what not. I've been fishing all of my life but seem to learn several things from reading these magazines.

Answer #5:

Everyone is correct, (thumbs up everyone). He needs to WIN some tournaments to have a legitimate fishing show or career in Bass fishing.

There are MANY Bass clubs in that area. If he isn't already involved in a club, (or 2), he should join and start acquiring B.A.S.S. points. B.A.S.S. has a "point system" attached to any club affiliated with B.A.S.S.

If you get enough points, (by winning simple club tourneys), you move to a "regional", and then a "State-wide" tournament. At the State-wide level, if you win, you go on to the national level.

Winning consistently at this level will get him enough "notoriety" that he can start approaching sponsors about a possible show.

Honestly, you don't really NEED to win anything if all you want to do is have a fishing show. (It just helps!)

(Example???- Look at Charlie Moore, or the guy from Lunkerville- both those guys have very little Tourney time.)

MONEY is all you really need, (or a serious contact).

I've investigated investing in a fishing program myself. I have a friend who is an amazing fisherman and has a perfect personality for a 30 minute show, (and has made the State-wide T for 2 years). I wanted to have him as the "host" and I would be "behind the scenes". But, as we investigated we found out some of the protocols for a TV show.

#1. You can't make just a "pilot". You need at least 12-14 episodes, (a Seasons worth), to get on the most basic TV channel, (like a cable access channel- where, by the way, you make no actual money for the programs you've made).

Knowing you need a SEASONS worth of episodes that may or MAY NOT make you a dime kinda put the "kibosh" on our plans. (wry grin)

Plus, even though we have access to the correct camera's, audio, and editing facilities, being able to find the TIME to spend on such a "business long shot" is tough.

You see- even if your program is GREAT, (and you manage to actually make 14 episodes) you still have to SELL it to a studio to make your money back. And we figured the basic cost, (with everybody: camera-man, editor, soundman, Etc- donating their time), to still be in the $1000-2000 range.

(It would be TONS more if you didn't have "volunteers" and access to Apple Editing programs, pro-grade cameras, sound, Etc.)

So- where does that leave us, (and you)???????????????

Back to gaining notoriety in the regional B.A.S.S. Tourneys and then possibly moving to the next "level".

Other possible tournaments trails you might want to follow to gain recognition?

Hope this helps ya? Good luck. (And remember, it's not the destination it's the journey.)
